Haikou, Hainan Island

Discover Hainan Through a Design & Cultural Lens

By Private Appointment · Limited to 1–2 Groups Weekly

An English-speaking way into the real Haikou — hosted by Jasmine, with a global perspective and the access of a local.

Make Your Time in Haikou Count
Jasmine Chang

I've lived on four continents. I chose this island.

London, Cape Town, Vancouver, Phnom Penh. I've travelled to Antarctica, Madagascar, Argentina — places most people only see on maps.

I'm currently building a quiet-luxury home and lifestyle brand inspired by Hainan. Alongside it, I invite curious travellers to discover the Haikou I know: its quieter corners, local rhythms, and stories no guidebook can give you.

My perspective has been shaped by a life lived across continents — international in outlook, personal in every detail.

From Hainan to Paris

In 2024, I partnered with Chinese-American designer Vivienne Tam to bring Li textile to Paris. In 2025, I brought Li textile — Hainan's UNESCO-listed intangible cultural heritage — onto the official Paris Fashion Week calendar, in partnership with French designer Véronique Leroy.

In 2026, I am collaborating with the Hainan Provincial Mass Art Center to bring Li textile into conversation with technology and contemporary life — exploring new ways for its stories, patterns, and knowledge to be encountered today.

Curated Cultural Experiences & Hosted Evenings

Morning
Architecture & Flavors

The Heritage Qilou:
Most Visitors Miss

Beyond the postcard streets: a temple, market alleys, snack stalls, the Hainan chicken locals return to, and cafés hidden from the main road. Jasmine knows where to stop, what to taste, and the stories that make Old Street feel lived in.

A morning that reveals the city behind its facades. A taste of famous Hainan chicken.

Afternoon
Coffee & Culture

Hainan Coffee:
Tradition, Remixed

From old-school Hainan coffee to the fusion cold brews of Haikou's new generation, taste both sides of a culture in motion — local beans, a local dessert, and cafés where the city's creative crowd spends its afternoons.

A slow way into the rhythms of the island — its past, its neighbourhoods, and the community that shapes them.

Evening

An Evening You Couldn't
Plan Yourself

Sunset, a table Jasmine returns to herself, a drink, and an evening that opens through familiarity rather than recommendations. You arrive as a guest at places shaped by people building Haikou's cultural life today — local in spirit, international in outlook.

For travellers with limited time, this is a more immediate way into the Haikou locals know.

Li Textile, Home & Hainan Design

An intimate introduction to Li textile — one of China's oldest Jacquard weaving techniques — and the Hainan textile traditions that inspire the home and lifestyle pieces I am creating. Inspired by a deep understanding of the natural world, these traditions carry layers of symbolism, memory, and quiet mystery.
